If you follow Robert Hookey’s blog, You’ve Been Hooked, then you are already captivated by this author’s writing. So, when I heard that The Hook had written a book during the pandemic lockdowns, I had to grab it.
As a genre I would not have picked up this book, but then I would have missed out on a fantastic story and Robert’s exceptional writing. Thank goodness for open-mindedness.
To specify the genre isn’t easy. Into the Dark can be placed in many sections of a bookstore including, Fantasy, Mystery, Action and Adventure and even comedy. Is there a section for No Picture Comic Books that are really well written? Or, even better, a section called, Get Hooked.
The Hook pulled me in with his cast of characters that can sometimes be confusing and most often enthrall to keep you reading way past your bedtime. There is a glossary at the end of the book that outlines the characters. Thank you, Robert!
This wasn’t a gradual or careful reel in. This was a yank that makes you feel and think while entertaining and sometimes actually laughing out loud. Enough with the ‘hook’ puns though, I think I’m beginning to sound like The Hook. I wish!
Into the Dark is book one in what Robert Hookey calls The Infinite Crossover Series. Written with humour, sarcasm and in a conversational tone that makes you feel as if you are listening to Robert tell you a story that you hope will never end.
The story will take you through glimpses of history and current day events masked in a set of deeply imaginative characters that come to life in a struggle that is very real and easily identified with. It is action packed and based on some of Hook’s friends, coloured with an explosive imagination and poignantly illustrates that we cannot get to the light at the end of the tunnel without first going Into the Dark.
Thanks to this pandemic Robert Hookey’s career as a Niagara hotel bellman has come to an end after 20 years. Perhaps you will support his new career as Author by purchasing his book here.
or here if you’re not in Canada

Sounds like his own life story is a good example of how sometimes good things can come out of a crisis!

I really don’t know where to begin; this review is honest (which I’m actually deeply grateful for), well-written, and just plain cool!
Getting reviews, both on Amazon, and on platforms like this, is the greatest challenge I’m facing as a an indie author, so thank you from the bottom of my heart, Shelley
